Vanuatu Daily Post: GDT to expand e-commerce activity in Vanuatu
This news item appeared in the Vanuatu Daily Post dated April 23, 2008 and at the time of this post it had been read 34 times.
Quote:
Businesses in Vanuatu now stand a higher chance to connect with local and global markets now that the Vanuatu based e-commerce provider, Global Digital Transfers Inc. (GDT) is expanding its services.
“The Vanuatu market and economy itself can change with the introduction of services. For example GDT can provide for ways for a product produced by a community on an island which would be normally shipped to Vila to be listed before it leaves the island and be viewed by potential buyers and even sold with payment made before it arrives in Vila,” a GDT spokesman said in recent media release.
At present limitations on providing certain services in Vanuatu has been an issue not only for GDT but other businesses.
The GDT spokesman said if Vanuatu is going to embrace electronic commerce as a major new industry then it must set up the necessary support infrastructure.
“We can combine our Telecommunications license and the developing services to allow a business or anyone wanting our services to be connected to the internet world.”
Adding that the internet is a crucial element in the e-commerce world because without it the world will not give countries like Vanuatu a chance to be part of the expanding global market.
GDT believes that Vanuatu is ideally structured to be a major player in the internet and e-commerce world and deserves to gain the associated benefits which can be taken.
In fact the forward thinking legislation passed in Vanuatu was a major factor in the selection of Vanuatu as GDT’s base for development of operations.

Thanks for posting this, GL. There are several points that warrant a comment:

And I thought the infrastructure was already set up - or was that before it got washed away by the heavy rain? I am sure we can all relate to the limitations on certain services being an issue for GDT and other businesses.

But if you don't sort out the major bugs that you have, and do it quickly, the Internet will move on so that no one wants your services ...

I'm leaving the commenting for anyone that wishes. At the least what they state in that article is in contradiction of what DX has demonstrated to now.

Doing a tracecert on DXS, it ends at the satellite uplink in Australia again. No connection further on to Vanuatu. Wonder if the wood shed (server house) got wet again?
Oh, and there is a link in that article for people to post comments.

Maybe the wind blew it down, or maybe Merv simply didn't pay his bill again. Or maybe, the authorities finally shut him down?
That newspaper article was quite interesting. The only legislation that is in play for these people is the legislation that makes Vanuatu a haven for these type of operations.
If the paper is not tuned in to what's been happening with GDT over the past couple of years, they certainly should have a good idea once they comments start rolling in. I wonder how many posts they will permit before they turn the comments section off? I don't see how there would be any positive posts to that article.

I submitted a less than complimentary comment regarding GDT just now. No surprise the comments go into moderation so to speak. So my guess is the Vanuatu Daily Post chooses what comments they publish.
