I'm pretty sure there was a hint of humour intended in that comment about the shed. No need to take it seriously

Are you sure about that? I would say that it's clearly their initiative. I think it becomes obvious when you look into it..
Until such time as there is evidence to prove so, it's obvious that SPIN and DXS are not the same. If you have evidence to prove otherwise, i'd love to hear it.
Considering how DXS have done business over the last 4 or so years, if they are in fact behind SPIN, that really doesn't give a lot of hope for the project.

I do not know of any connection of the two. If I get a chance I will ask but does it really matter?
For what I know GDT is using satellites at this stage.
I was under the impression Satellite was the ONLY option at this time. Unless you count undersea telephone copper cable. An entire country on dail-up. Yechhhhh!

Hi,
Of course they are not the same. There are 12 countries involved in the SPIN project. I think the initiative has been taken by a collaboration of several different interest. And I guess that GDTs related companies have been taking part in that with incentives, agreements, planning and such and working towards making it happen.. Just as they've been doing in many other areas.
Found this when I was looking for something else. Go figure. Anyway, it discusses telcom issues in Vanuatu. It's a bit "dated" but it does help to explain GDT's stated interest in this communications area.
That is a very good explanation as to why it is so hard to call any where in Vanuatu. I had to buy pre-paid phone cards to call home and then I had to find a phone that worked and then I had to find a phone that took the cards. This took me two days to make two 7 min calls to my house in GA.
My cell would not work even though I have international calling with the cell company.
