A mystery solved
If anybody has ever wondered about all the activity that originates from the ocean just off the shore of Africa, well I can now solve that mystery for you.
During a conversation with our DXS contact I asked specifically about this. The instant response was the DXOilRig, although I mentioned I felt that the DXCruiseShip was just as original.
All joking aside, this specific area is not actually anywhere in particular. Location wise it is the center of the default map and represents activity from an undeterminate location (such as traffic with it's true location masked or routed through proxy servers)
We also discussed the DXGlobalTrace in general and it was mentioned that various types of activity can be turned on and off depending on the current needs. I am hoping that once everything is finalized and bedded in that we will have the ability to do this ourselves (but then of course I expect to not really have the time to stop and watch )

The DX Mothership is communicating and prepared to land at any moment.

Sheeee-it.... I liked it better when I thought it was a yacht off the coast of Africa... and there was this wealthy cross between George Clooney and Richard Gere just waiting for me.....
Thanks a BUNCH, Allan...

"Undeterminate location." Indeed
Why not make Vanuatu the centre of the map?
This seems like yet another unnecessary layer of secrecy.

I don't think it's secrecy. I suspect if you do something in DX land and you are using a GOOD proxy service the actual location of your computer would show as latitude 0.00, longitude 0.00.
There have been many times I have done traces on posters that are spammers and found they were using proxies or whatever and could not seem to back track them past a certain point with commercially available software.
So, I suspect this is a matter of convenience to them, not another layer of secrecy.

I still think they're covering up for Elvis, who is alive and well and living in a luxury yacht off the coast of Africa...

Hi,
Did some research the other day and came across the location outside west Africa.
It seems to have the same IP address DXS used before the changeover in July 07.
Some info from whois.sc:
IP Information for 63.100.216.182
IP Location: Viet Nam Global Digital Tranfers
Do a visual traceroute at whatismyipaddress.com and you'll get to the location.
Regards,
will
