Adventure At Best Buy

Janice's new job isn't quite so new any longer. When it has been over a year the new kind of wears off. Although the change was nearly a lateral, the difference between attitudes of the two companies made the current job far more desirable. Still over a year without a full week off is a stretch. We were going to do some site seeing within the state but the truth be known it was easy to discern she was feeling worn down and in need of some serious vegetating. So I suggested she do that. She didn't argue so except for being under the weather Sunday she has mostly relaxed. Sometimes it's the best way to spend vacation time.

Monday evening she wrote up the Tuesday morning errands list which included exciting stuff like returning a rented movie, a stop at the Alltel phone store, the dollar store for doggy treats, Best Buy, hardware store and most importantly "the Haley dog" would get a nice long ride (her favorite!).

We were down to the last two errands as Janice parked her Jeep at Best Buy and opened her door without telling Haley to stay. Haley, being one to immediately cease upon such a golden opportunity was half way to the Best Buy automatic doors before either Janice or I reacted. Janice's door remained wide open as she set off in hot pursuit of the 10 1/2 pound escapee. I closed the door and followed into the store. Janice asked the security guy at the door if he'd seen a little white dog. He said "yeah it's over th - no th - no th - there" pointing each time she stopped. Then the fatal mistake: Janice called out "Haley" and everyone in the store seemed to start calling her. She ran from person to person for a quick pet while alluding attempts to grab her. It might have been confusion from hearing so many people calling her name but I suspect it was the shear joy of showing off while getting so much attention. Janice finally scooped her up as she ran past en-route to another person. She got a secure hold on our little trouble maker and said "I'm sorry but I don't have a receipt for this one" as she went past the security guy.

I proceeded to take care of business at the customer service counter, we apologized for all the stir and were assured it was the highlight of their morning and the best entertainment that had happened in the store for a long while. Six o'clock that evening we escorted Haley (tightly leashed) into the PetSmart obedience training area for her sixth of eight sessions. It's working well!

I'm thinking Janice will be counting the minutes before returning to work.
