Unfocused Gazing Into Space

Part of last week was going to be spent sight seeing not far from home. We planned to fasten the kennel to the luggage rack (it would have been the true test of how much Haley loves rides) and spend a couple days visiting the “International Peace Gardens” and touring a bit in Canada. Well, it didn't happen. Janice needed downtime. Our sight seeing became unfocused gazing into space from the back deck.
Haley did get a longer bike ride test though. The bike beckoned, temperatures were high and Haley was underfoot begging for a ride. So I snuggled the little girl in and zipped the kennel door closed. Eastern North Dakota, well for that matter much of North Dakota has subtle topographical diversity. How's that for saying it's nearly flat as a billiard table? Our route was one I ride frequently and Haley got a smooth ride (what would you expect from a billiard table). A two tone blue GL1500 came along side and took a hard look at the kennel then gave an approving wave before accelerating toward the horizon.
The last stretch of this route offers two options: first is jump onto 1-94 for about half mile then exit onto US Hwy 10 / Main Ave. which passes within 5 blocks of home. Second is north on a mile of very loose gravel, then back onto pavement. Nope, not doing the gravel, not chancing it with passenger in kennel. So onto the freeway, up to 75 MPH and then three long sweeping curves of exit 343 leading onto Hwy 10. All things considered I made the right choice on this one.
Not three minutes later I was opening the kennel door. The little girl climbed into my arms, I put her on the ground and she found the nearest patch of grass to relieve pressure. Then back toward the bike ready for more. I guess 20 miles just isn't enough if you don't have to whiz.
