Well, all of this seems pretty academic at the moment... and, while I voted 'yes', I also have to admit that Eoin's 'no' vote rationale made some sense too... ;-)
Anyway... a comment

Really?!? I still don't remember purchasing a membership. I remember opening an account for free.

Actually, while "opening an account" is indeed free... if you put any funds in, then "paying fees" has always been a requirement. In fact, it has been rather clearly inferred that the 'backing' of our gains has been (up to now) coming pretty much solely from fees (and therefore the lack of liquidity is "the users fault" for not being willing to pay those fees).
Of course, this alone, without other products and services, is thinly disguised ponzi type arrangement... BUT.. "IF" real products and services or a trading arena (i.e. where products and services could be 'bought and sold' in) were to come about, that would totally legitimize the whole thing... something we've all been waiting for... the 'release of services'...
Of course, to be 'fair to DX', in regards to paying fees, many folks obviously also just wanted to maintain the gains created from their high TDV's, but were not willing to "pay for them" (i.e. by actually bringing in "out of pocket" funds to pay for those fees).
Still, "IF" DXG were an actual (i.e. valuable EC), then paying fees w/DXG should have been 'just fine' as well... But, encouraging more "out of pocket" input into the system would have helped make the economy stronger... so was nonetheless worth DX's efforts to encourage that... Anyway...
There has also been the thought; "pay fees for what"? The system isn't working and "the gains" seemed useless...
But as I said, it all continues to remain purely academic for now... no site, no gains, no products... only Merv's occasional tidbits of info...
IF some real business model / services come about... then we'll know more... if not... then I have to ask myself "why even bothering to type this stuff???"
